2011 Season

August 4th through August 28th

MOBY DICK REHEARSED
by
Orson Welles

This show is Melville’s classic turned on its head. The setting is a mid-19th Century American repertory theater. The play begins subtly as the audience arrives with the cast milling around an empty stage. The cast members generally fool around and complain about their boss and their forthcoming production of King Lear. Then, making a big dramatic entrance and smoking a cigar, the actor manager of the time comes on stage and tells them they are going to rehearse another piece, Moby Dick.

BETRAYED
by
George Packer

Three young Iraqis go to work for the occupying American forces in Baghdad after the overthrow in Saddam. They come to find that some of their Iraqi neighbors consider them traitors because they work for the Americans. They also find that some of their American employers regard them with hostility and contempt. Ultimately, the trio find that their lives are in deadly danger, and their pleas to their American bosses for greater security are being ignored. The threat of sudden, violent death is palpable. They wanted to assist the forces of freedom. What will happen to them now?

The play “Betrayed,” which debuted in New York in 2008 is based on true events, as reported by George Packer in a non-fiction article appearing in The New Yorker in March, 2007. Packer, a staff writer for the magazine, is also author of the award-winning book “The Assassins’ Gate: America in Iraq.” “Betrayed” is his first play.

The new production of “Betrayed” is directed by Andre Verderame. He has worked with the company as stage manager and actor, appearing in “True West,” “Below The Belt,” and “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot.”

The cast of “Betrayed” includes (in alphabetical order) Pasha Bocarie, Tim deZarn, Andrew Patton, Peter Sabri, Dustin Seavey and Aliah Whitmore.

Technical direction: Andrew Patton. Stage manager: Dustin Seavey. Production design/Sound design: Aliah Whitmore.

Moved to a later date...Yes, sad but true.

THE BOOK OF LIZ
by
David and Amy Sedaris

A massively absurd comedy about a little lady named Liz and her famous cheese balls.  A strange tale of an even stranger journey to discover how to love who you are.  It’s also insanely hilarious and appeals to the twisted sense of humor in all of us.

*  Whitmore Eclectic is unable to produce THE BOOK OF LIZ this season but W.E. plans to produce this hilarious piece in the spring of 2012.
